Family Christmas outing Wallace’s Dam
The kids smiles today reflected the success of today’s outing, proudly supported by fishingboatingtasmania.com.au . There were 20+ children in attendance who braved the cool and at times wet conditions which is a credit to them and their parents.
During the first hour of fishing the kids and ladies were treated to many bites & fish landed. After this, when the poor weather confronted us, they seemed to develop lock jaw and very few were caught.
The prize for the taxidermy added much interest with 4 quality fish being weighed as soon as they were caught. The first being 2.084kg rainbow to be upgraded to a 2.316kg rainbow then a 2.615kg Atlantic salmon. This fish held the lead for some time until the whole dam hears a young 4 year old Zara Brooks holler out “that’s a whopper dad”. Upon presentation for weighing, it drags the scales to an impressive 3.033kg and managed to take out the largest fish prize for the kids on the day. Zara’s fish has now been sent on its way with our great sponsor John Wliesmith from airbrushedtolife.com.au to be mounted and Zara will be able to brag over Dad for a long time, if not the rest of her life.
The kids were in awe of Santa arriving via helicopter and he presented them each with a bag of lollies and plenty of Christmas cheer. Seeing the kids lined up full of anticipation near the gate to see Santa enter from the near paddock was priceless.
The prize winners for the day are as follows:
Heaviest Kids Fish: Zara B - Taxidermy prize
Heaviest Boys: Luke S - $20
2nd Heaviest Girls: Taylor B - $20
Lucky Draw Prizes: Kiarna J - $20, William J - $20, Wright - $20, Josh S - T-shirt, Lauren D - T-shirt.
Ladies Heaviest Fish: Helen T - $75 IGA Voucher.
All children were given a pack of soft plastics or a lure, kindly donated by Yep Tassie Tackle.

Ron Deene Open Highland Water Comp 23-24th November
G'day all,
Well what a weekend it has been weather wise. Thunderstorms, wind, rain, cold, vehicle damage, it's all happened.
Selwyn and I left for the club van on an uneventful trip until we were rolling down the avenue past Jonah Bay turn off when we were attacked by a suicidal roo being and a rather big one. It hit fair and square in the middle, taking out the radiator and bumper. We managed to get to the van. Snow also hit a roo on the way up Friday 4.30pm and broke the bumper, now has grey tape holding it together.
Ron had already set up his camp and we had an early night hoping we could get fishing Sat morning. We awoke to southerly winds and gathered at Ron's camper. We discussed where all were going to fish, Ron and Sikka heading to Woods, Sel and I decided with a dead ute we would fish along the fore shore where we could and got nothing. Kane arrived with some tools and we carried out temporary repairs, then drove the ute home escorted by Kane. Very much appreciated, returned with the Subaru.
Ron and Sikka had returned from Woods with 3 trout and a very conflicting story of how Ron lost one at the boat due to Sikka's netting skills. Ron will tell the story at a later date. Grant brought in 1 rainbow from Penstock, which will take some beating. Jim 1 rainbow from Swan Bay on Saturday night which was one of the roughest I have spent with gale force winds and heavy rain. I felt for any one in tents. Sunday morning was windy & cool, I don't think anyone moved before 8am. Ron and Sikka went touring, Kane went to look for a sheltered area, Snow headed home & Sel and myself tidied up the van and left for home as the weather got worse.
The attendees are as follows in no certain order.
Tom & Selwyn 0, Kane 2 at the pump house ramp, Ron 1 at woods, Sikka 2 at woods, Grant B 1 at Penstock, Snow 1 at Swan Bay, Bill & Jan Spencer 0, Jim Tubb 1 rainbow at Swan Bay, Jim showed much determination and spent 9 hours on his own, said he enjoyed himself, onya Jim! Secretary, Anna and son first timers were hopefully not put off by the weather. Matthew & Paul weighed in a fish each from Lake Augusta. If I have missed any person sorry.

1st Heaviest fish Grant B Rainbow 1.34kg $100
2ndHeaviest fish Jim T Rainbow 0.870kg $50

Kids Day Wallace,s Dam 16th November
Hi all
The weather greeted us with fantastic conditions for the second kids day dam comp held at wallaces dam.The attendance was disappointing but those that did make the effort to bring there kids were treated to some of the best fishing i have ever seen at the dam and a tagged trout was also landed by kaitlyn c.There were two monster fish caught by 4 year old Zara B and they weighed in at 3.5 kg each fish, nearly as high as Zara when holding them up.William Bowman caught the heaviest fish for boys weighing in at 2.636kg and his nan and pop were kept busy all morning watching his rod for when the fish were biting,it was great to see his reaction when his nan sang out to him that the rod had a fish on it.Another family that was kept the busiest all day was Gary and Sandra F with their grand daughter Kaitlyn, not only did Kaitlyn catch a tagged trout but she was pulling in fish constantly all day keeping her nan and pop busy netting, cleaning and baiting hooks.I did hear gary say that he never worked that hard at work so i rekon he was glad to get home and put his feet up,however it was quite comical to watch him trying to net all these fish as i think some may have been lost at the net, lol, lol. It was great to see Kaitlyn catch a tagged fish as she has been a regular to these kids day dams and just goes to show that persistence does pay off. Kaitlyn walked away with the cash jackpot of $150.00 so that means the prize pool goes back to $50.00 for the next event or the taxidermy prize.Cody and Logan were also in amongst the fish and they kept Adrian busy all day as well, they both won mystery weight prizes as well. The last mystery prize was won by Luke S who tried everything all day and only managed the one,his brother Josh was also lucky enough to win a shirt along with Alex Davis. All in all it was another good day at the dam, thanks to the outings committee for the bbq and organising such a good event and i hope more people support the next kids dam day at the Christmas one with Santa clause attending.
a big thank you to Fishing and Boating Tasmania for sponsoring the event with the cash prizes
Adrian Webb for donating the fabulous shirts
Airbrush To Life for donating a taxidermy prize
also a very big thankyou to Petuna Aquaculture for the fish and to the Wallace family for making this venue always available.

Lake Leake 2-5 November
A great weekend away was had by all that went down to Lake Leake, most people caught fish and they were in top condition. Even the undersized ones were the fattest small fish I have ever seen. The camping ground at the lake is a credit to Phil the caretaker as it was in tip top condition. For anyone considering taking the family fishing this would be the ideal place as it has hot showers, toilets, bbqs and some powered sites as well,A great asset to the municipality. The results of the weekend are as follows
1st heaviest fish---snowy j
2nd heaviest fish--leighton w
heaviest fish junior---lauren d
attendance prize---alex d

Gunns & Little Lake 5th October Sponsored by YEP TASSIE TACKLE
What a great roll up again we had to the Gunns/Little lake comp. About 22 people braved the wet and windy conditions. Five vehicles took on mother nature and drove all the way into Little Lake with the track boggy but reasonably hard underneath except one or two places. The rest of the convoy decided to play it safe and park at Gunns Lake and either walk or kayak to Little Lake. The old shack was still standing as we went past and a couple of guys were already set up camp in there out of the wind and the bad weather. We arrived at the lake at around 7am to a howling wind but looked good fishing conditions, it didn’t take everyone long to set up and head out, some wading, some in boats and some in kayaks. I waded the eastern shore the entire length of the lake and saw no fish what so ever and Grant had his new inflatable and told a similar story like the rest of the lads all over the lake. All methods of fishing were used and even Paul decided to go for a swim looking for fish after tipping over the kayak and losing his tackle box and breaking his rod, word has it that he tipped it over twice so his fishing was over before it begun. He was later seen heading for the warmth of his caravan with his tail between his legs. It was a day for dramas as Sikka broke his rod as well after drowning his hand held radio and making a lunge for it and the wind spinning him around and snapping his rod into a 3 piece rod. I also didn’t escape incident either losing my landing net out of my bag as I was wading the shoreline. A call came over the radio that a big one had been hooked in Gunns Lake so we were all keen to find out the details, John had been fly fishing and hooked Tom in the head and from all accounts he played up a bit when he was hooked. By this time the S Clan had arrived along with Neil and I bet Neil was relieved to see that there was plenty of water in the lake unlike last year when he had to tow John and myself around all day because the lake was too shallow for the boat we had. Little wonder there isn’t many fish caught when we go as there are that many other things happening there is no time to fish. It wasn’t long before the S Clan had fish in the boat, due to the presence of Jan and Bill with years of experience fishing here it was little wonder. Nathan and the boys were also amongst the fish so it was pleasing to see someone catching a fish or two. Craig fished the place to death today for a donut as well but i couldn’t believe how persistent he was all day when we gave up hours before hand, he was even seen on the bridge heading back along the track flicking a soft plastic about to try and entice one. All in all it was a great day but not that many fish but plenty of giggles along the way as always. Adrian B defended his title from winning this comp last year by taking it out again this year, Jan S came in a close second and Josh S out fished his older brother to take out the kids prize. Selwyn E was the luckiest out of all us muppet fishermen winning the attendance lucky draw prize. All the prizes were donated by Dale Howard from Yep Tassie Tackle so a big thank you Dale for those great prizes.
Longford Fishing Club Kids Dam 14 September Sponsored by FBT & Petuna Seafoods
The weather was perfect and with the dam receiving a fresh stocking of 3kg Atlantics a few days before, there was much interest in our first kids dam outing. Almost 30 children fished at various times throughout the day, with the 9am start having 25 children and their families lining the shore. It made for quite a spectacle with the Mums, Dads & Kids rushing to get the lines in when the call was made to start fishing and it wasn’t long until the fish were hitting the bank. Big smiles on the kids’ faces is what it’s all about.
In total there were 28 fish caught ranging from 350 grams to 2.85 kg, with 18 of the kids landing one or more. There are plenty still there, so hopefully those who missed out this time will land a few next time.
Tom, Selwyn & Ron gave up their time to cook the BBQ and help with the weighing of fish. I kindly thank them for this as it allowed myself to spend time fishing with my kids. Thank you very much guys!
Heaviest Boys Fish : Luke S & Jack S 2.75KG Atlantic each
Heaviest Girls Fish : Annabelle M 2.85KG Atlantic
Mystery Weight : Luke M .64KG Rainbow
Mystery Weight : Lilly B .46KG Rainbow
Mystery Weight : Luke S 1.05KG Rainbow

Open Rivers. Stage 1 8th September
The weather gods treated us very well for the first stage of the Open Rivers Competition with mostly clear skies & slight winds. Four groups fished the South Esk and Macquarie in boats with others choosing to leg it and fish the upper reaches of Brumbys creek, Liffey & Meander Rivers.
A total of 12 fish all being trout, were weighed in with some anglers landing more than one and plenty scoring the big doughnut. A BBQ followed the weigh in with 25 members present, a great turn up. A great feed and I apologise for forgetting the onion! A big thank you must go to Ron for cooking the BBQ to perfection. Lucky door prizes were well received and will be ongoing at most events. Greg D
Its 6.30 am, Sika is late. Apparently the battery on his phone died and the alarm didn't go off. Craig reckons his just waiting for Gosseys to open for coffee!! Anyway its now closer to seven and we are all geared up and ready to go. In our kayaks the three of us paddle out into Brumbys Creek to the beginning of a beautiful morning. I'm the first to hook up with a small Brown on old faithful, a black and gold T tail soft plastic. The pressures off, no doughnut for yours truly today. Its not long latter before I hook into another, this one jumps and I know its a better fish but the crafty so and so has buried itself down the side of a weed bed. Okay don't panic. Fishing rod in one hand, paddle, net and everything else in the other, I manage to make my way closer to the fish so that i can safely extract said so and so. I'm happy, its in good nick and about 1 1/2LB.
I've put the pressure on now but its only a matter of a couple of minutes before Craig is hooked up to a good fish. It puts up a really good fight "one of the best", Craig says "for many years". This is the fish that ends up top of the leader board.
We continue our way upstream and Sika and I stop for a cuppa and a stretch of the legs. Its onwards again and Craig has managed to land another nice fish that will turn out to be the last one for the day. We stopped at the top end and found a good spot for lunch before making our way back downstream. We fished all the way back for no result. All in all a great day on the water and a relatively productive one. Thanks go to Greg D and the Trophy Committee for another successful event. Paul F

Four Springs 11th August
What a beautiful star filled sky that greeted me at 4;15am when i was getting ready to head out to the springs with Paul, little did we know what weather was to come. I swung past Carrick at 5am and picked Paul up and set off for the Four Springs comp. We arrived at the carpark where Sikka had just got there so we all decided to launch our boats and get the gear ready for a 6;10am start.it wasn’t long and I heard sikka swearing and cursing as the motor wouldn’t start, after a bit of checking this and that he eventually realised that he had the motor in gear instead of neutral.lol, lol, nearly as funny as the hydrofoils episode. By this time Greg had arrived and was getting ready to cook us all eggs and bacon for breakfast at 9am,as he is still on crutches. They were all starting to arrive so at 6;10am we headed off in the dark following sikka as he had an almighty spotlight on the front of his boat that showed us the right path to take.it didn’t take long to get light enough to throw a line out so that’s exactly what we done, trolled around for a while for nothing so we decided to drift spin the western shore for nothing as well. All this time we saw a few fish being caught and Ron and Alex were the ones teasing us because they were catching fish and we had none. We flogged it to death until 9am when we got the call that the eggs and bacon were ready, so didn’t have to tell us twice we were off. Greg done a great job as the head chef, I think he should do that all the time we have a comp, lol, lol. We were hoping for a change of luck when we went back out but the weather wasn’t looking to good but we headed off again as we live in hope. Trolling again and drift spinning for nothing again when i said to Paul if he wanted to tie up to a tree and throw some power bait at them. He gave me a funny look and said he hadn’t used it before, out come the hooks and sinkers and the chunky cheese and a quick demo to show paul how to set it up.it wasn’t long before Paul was on and a nice rainbow was landed, I think he thought he would never catch anything on powerbait as its a bit unusual fishing with it when you haven’t used it before. I was sitting there not getting a touch when he was on again, a bigger rainbow this time and he was loving this bait fishing now. All of a sudden there were boats all around us doing the same thing but it was too late as they went off the bite as quickly as they started. Another donut for me at the springs but enjoyable just the same, what a wonderful way to spend a Sunday fishing in wind, driving rain, and catching no fish.lol.lol,at least Paul bagged two so off to the boat ramp to load up and weigh his catch.by this time the rain was pouring and was glad to be on shore just in time for the prize winners to be announced
Heaviest fish--- Kane
Mystery weight--- Paul
Heaviest junior--- Alex
Thanks to the 20 or so members that braved the wild conditions to turn up and especially Craig who fished on the Saturday thinking that was the comp day to only find out when he arrived back at the boatramp that it was the wrong day, lol, lol.he did see the funny side though and turned up again today, hats dedication.
